Watteau guys. “What do you think of this?” I asked my aged neighbours.
“Like your painting of Desdemona and Othello.”
“What? That’s Madonna.”
“Madonna who?”
“Madonna the pop entertainer.”
“Never heard of her.”
I didn’t have the nerve to tell them I thought it was from a DVD that was banned in several countries for being too licentious.
It still is my sexiest painting and probably my best ever painting.
After 2 weeks of plotting and painting there was such a fizzing triangle from his head to his groin to her bosom to her face to his head again that I wanted to paint a spark between them.
The fan begs a question. I am not a fan of nudity but the voluminous dress made me realise (before photos) why they were painted for somewhere in there was a pink, perfumed, pneumatic person – a big tease!
What did she smell like? During Christmas I was very ill and I took a shortcut through a Store. I skidded to a halt in their perfume department. A young girl asked if I needed help?
“You are going to think I’m a pervert,” I said, Showing her the painting on my Moby.” When I painted this I wondered what perfume she wore.
I know that there is a Madonna perfume but I don’t suppose she wears that, especially as one can get a fully non-authentic bottle in Poundland for £1.
A quick scroll on her phone, she shot off, and returned with a tester strip.
“Hypnotic Poison is the nearest we have,”
Can’t describe it. Like Fish Chips and Vinegar for the first time! Different & Memorable.
I doubt the Halo light behind the servant’s head is accidental. I don’t think I could paint it better and the use of gold paint worked well.
I have removed a dancing girl and made the other servant less obvious. I have to credit Madonna and her staff for the tremendous pose & inventiveness.
